The Florida Association of Residential Property Managers was founded and incorporated in 1997. The original incorporating officers were:

Gene D. Bennett, CPM, MPM as President, CEO and State Director; Gail A. Moncla, CPM, MPM as President Elect and Secretary, and State Director; Fred Thompson, PPM as State Director; H. Anthony Heist as State Director and Legal Council.

Early in 1997, NARPM was searching for new ideas of growth within its association. At the NARPM National Board of Directors meeting in Washington, D.C., in June of 1997, Gene Bennett (who was then serving on the national board of NARPM) presented the idea of FARPM to the national board. Gene believed that the development of a state level of association seemed to be the next normal progression of association growth for NARPM.

The national board of directors of NARPM, embraced the idea of having a statewide chapter and selected Florida (with Gene Bennett's enthusiasm) as it's first state level organization, Based on the tentative approval of the national board, the papers to incorporate were filed.

On September 10th, 1997 the NARPM chapter leaders of Florida met in Orlando, Florida to discuss the formation of FARPM and the benefits it would afford it's members. Representatives from each Florida NARPM chapter were in attendance.

Also in attendance were Mark Kreditor, MPM as the National President of NARPM and Jim Mitchell, Florida's Assistant Attorney General for Real Estate and Harry Heist as legal council for FARPM.

The FARPM Board of Directors, in 2006, chose unanimously to become a "stand alone" State Organization furthering their goal of focusing on the issues in the State of Florida that affect Property owners, residents and property managers.

FARPM is the only state trade association in Florida designated specifically to serve only the needs of the small residential property managers industry. With this in mind, the future of FARPM appears bright as we embark upon a new dawn of working together for the betterment of our profession.
